Co-op Housing Lease Renewal Scenarios

Introduction

The City of Vancouver has provided land for non-profit and co-op rental housing at over 200 sites across the city. Of this leased land, a significant portion is allocated to co-operative housing. Many of the land leases were signed in the 1970s and 1980s and the end of their term is approaching. The City’s goal is to retain and renew existing co-ops and to grow the City’s non-market housing stock. (See Housing Vancouver for more information about co-op housing and non-market housing)

The City has prepared a draft lease renewal methodology that includes four different scenarios for co-op leases and has presented these ideas through a discussion paper (vancouver.ca/co-ops).

We’d like your feedback on these scenarios. Your feedback will help us better understand any concerns and help us refine them further.  Please note that the specific terms of each lease renewal will be negotiated by the City and each co-op on an individual basis.

The survey will be open until June 30, 2020.
